As we wrap up the week and head in to March Break, I wanted to let everyone know that there is no assigned homework for the break. Students in morning classes should put in some time on their Historica projects, which are due at the end of the month. Afternoon students should read and work on their writing folders.
Have a great holiday!

I am just in the process of wrapping up our term two report cards. I have finished the marks and comments for reading, despite the fact that many students have not handed in their reading journals and final projects from our literature circles.
I will be able to change these marks as late as Tuesday night. If I receive these assignments before then, I will make changes to report card marks.
Term two writing folders are due Tuesday. I will be marking these Tuesday night, and should have marks ready for report cards then. I may not be able to include late assignments on report cards, which means students will earn "R" on this major assignment if it is not handed in. If you are going to be away Tuesday, please ensure that you have made arrangements to get this assignment in to school for credit.
Please help me give students the best mark possible by ensuring that work is handed in on time so that I can include it in your report card mark.
Thanks!
Kristy Angel

This is shaping up to be a nice, normal, low-key week (and since those are few and far between, I thinks it's worth celebrating).

Morning students received their historica fair outlines last week, and are working on both historica fair and our next history unit, The Development of Western Canada. Historica Fair is not due until March, but, like science fair, it is a good idea to get started early to be well prepared.

Afternoon students finished their literature circle novels last week, and need to hand in journals and their final project on Tuesday. Students were given ample class time for both of these assignments in class.

Term two writing folders will be assigned this week. Students will need to submit drafts (which have been edited/reviewed by at least on other person) and good copies of a report, a newspaper article and one piece of their choice by Tuesday, March 2nd. We have already written reports and newspaper articles this term, so students may simple revise and resubmit these assignments, or they may choose to write new ones. We will have three in-school computer lab times, and the computers are available before and after school during homework club.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 613 283 6101.
Thanks,
Kristy Angel

Thanks for all of the support through science fair - I know it is a pretty busy time with many projects going on at home!

We are wrapping up several units in both morning and afternoon classes. With these units done, I am beginning to work on report cards. I am missing quite a few assignments, and will be sending home homework club notes on Monday for students who owe assignments.
Students missing work will lose lunch privileges until they complete outstanding assignments (beginning tomorrow - so if you are not sure if you owe work, bring a lunch as you will not be going out). Students who do not make up the work quickly risk losing additional privileges including sports teams and field trips.

This week we will begin our next critical thinking-learning pathway exploring how Canadian society affects the world around us. Grade eights will be looking more specifically at how the development and expansion into western Canada affects our lives today.

Through this pathway, we will explore biography as a text form in both reading and writing, in afternoon and morning classes.

Please watch tomorrow for homework club notes to ensure your child is on track with their school work.

Thanks,
Kristy Angel

Hi all!

This is a very busy week. Here is a quick rundown:

Monday - Science fair projects due for morning students (projects must be handed in for students to attend skiing and science museum trips)

Tuesday - ski trip. I will be staying at the school on Tuesday, so students who have work to complete may do so (a few afternoon students still have their newspaper articles about penny wars to hand in).

Wednesday - science museum field trip (don't forget to bring in $2 and your permission form!)

Thursday - this might just be a regular day!

Friday - School-wide science fair (judges from the high school to visit projects)

I am in the process of beginning to write report cards. As always, students may come and see me at any time if they have any questions about their marks.

This is the third week of our literature circle group meetings, so all groups should be about at third of the way through their books. As we are not in school on Tuesday, I will meet with all groups on Thursday.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hi all!

I hope that everyone is doing well and enjoying our little treat of warmer weather.

Science fair is well underway, and while final projects are not due until the first week of February, students should be started their experiments at this point to ensure that they are on track. Each student received a suggested schedule for science fair to make sure that they give themselves enough time to do their best work.

We are beginning unit 3 of the Fully Alive program, Male and Female: Created sexually. Please take some time to talk as a family about many of the important values in this unit with your family. I have already asked students to write out questions they may have, and students have a lot of important issues that they want to ask about, many of which would be more appropriate to discuss at home than at school.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Cheers,
Kristy Angel
